Leeds Male Voice Choir
Sixty singers, recorded on location in a church, then edited and mixed back at the studio.
On location

Leeds Male Voice Choir, recorded on location
The brief
Leeds Male Voice Choir needed a recording that sounded like the choir actually sounds, in a room that suits them, rather than a close-miked studio version of sixty people.
That meant recording on location rather than bringing them to the studio.
Why the room mattered
A sixty-piece choir in a small control room is a different problem to one vocalist in a booth. The blend happens in the air between the singers and the space, not at the desk afterwards.
Recording in a church meant the natural acoustic did a large part of the work, and the job became capturing that honestly rather than rebuilding it later with reverb.
My role
Planning and setting up the location session, engineering the recording across the day, then editing, mixing and mastering the finished tracks back at the studio.
Working with a choir also means working with an organisation rather than a single artist. Schedules, availability and turnaround all matter more, and there are more people relying on the result.
The result
A finished record delivered to the choir, with the turnaround they needed.
From the choir
Thank you so much for all your work, care and the speed of turnaround. So pleased with these, and really hope to work with you again in the future.
